Perhaps the easiest way to explain Focusing is with the chrysalis.
Caterpillars are born with everything they need to become butterflies.
Inspite of this (or maybe because of it), when the time comes to form a chrysalis, a caterpillar will look for a place of safety.
Despite the hard, protective outer case, a chrysalis is fragile. It needs to be securely attached to a solid surface to allow inward growth to occur.
It is the struggle to leave the chrysalis, that builds strength in the butterfly’s wings, strength to emerge wholly transformed and ready to move forward in life.
Each one of us carries our life’s experiences within our bodies. Focusing allows us to accompany them with an attitude of welcome, open curiosity and non-judgement. As we find a felt sense of these life experiences in our bodies with a Focusing attitude, something magical happens. Like the chrysalis, we change from the inside out. There is often struggle, but there is also growth, newfound resilience and transformation.
Focusing teaches a special way of listening to our bodies, bringing self compassion, inner healing, hope and a way to come home to oneself.
Focusing needs to be experienced rather than explained so, please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like an initial taster session.
“Your physically felt body is in fact part of a gigantic system of here and other places, now and other times, you and other people–in fact, the whole universe. This sense of being bodily alive in a vast system is the body as it is felt from inside.”
