Working with the Body

We are not just our brains or our bodies. We are not simply our behaviours or our feelings. And we are not what happens to us - nor our reactions to what happens to us.

There is a continual interaction going on inside each one of us between thoughts, feelings, attitudes and beliefs and it all happens within - AND IMPACTS - mind, body and spirit.

That impact can be positive or negative, leaving us feeling embodied or disembodied, regulated or dysregulated, bringing either hurting or healing.

The hurting our body experiences may be communicated in multiple ways, through our stress response; physical tension or pain; the language we use; unhealthy patterns of behaviour; coping strategies and defence mechanisms; illness; low energy and fatigue; anxiety, fear and self-criticism; interpersonal problems or overwhelm.

Somatic psychotherapy, sometimes referred to as body psychotherapy, provides a holistic approach, integrating mind, body and spirit to achieve physical, emotional and spiritual balance and well-being.

Listening to and working with the body’s own life energy, our inherent body wisdom, in a safe and gentle way, can bring: self compassion, a greater sense of connection, new purpose and life direction and deep inner healing.

Just like a single cell, the character of our lives is determined not by our genes but by our responses to the environmental signals that propel life.
